Your Body Speaks…How to Listen

You live, love, laugh with your body and in order to express yourself fully, taking notice and care of the physical is key. This miraculous vessel carries your soul around!
For many people the body can be the last thing tended to. There’s a focus on career/job, home, bills, other peoples needs, all on the outer. The irony is, if you don’t care for your body, you won’t be able to enjoy all the outer experiences.
Your body is always talking to you, it has its own inherent wisdom and language. Are you listening?
Being honest with where you are right now is key. This is the starting point to creating change and health. The following are ways your body may speak to you through each of the natural elements as a guide;
Air/Mental: What are you saying to your body? This comes from the mind and your body hears you and responds in kind. Notice how to talk to your body and ask yourself; “would I say this to a friend?” Then reframe any negative self talk and say something encouraging. Or, apologize to your body for not treating it well.
Water/Emotions: Your body speaks to you when you experience feelings. Where do you feel in your body, especially when you are with certain people or discussing particular subjects? Pay attention to your jaw, chest, stomach, back muscles, etc. Bodily sensation offer clues to how you feel emotionally, especially when you are ignoring or denying something that needs to change.
Fire/Spiritual: Have you ever had chill bumps? That’s a lightening bolt of truth. The body will also take a deep breath after you express a truth. Or how about the hair rising on the back of your neck? That’s fear, and can be a warning.
Earth/Physical: There are the obvious aches, pains, bumps, fatigue, that your body speak through. What’s important here is to get to the root of a symptom. You can listen to the symptoms by journaling and dialoging with them to gain more information. Ask, “what is this symptom’s message for me?’.
In order to bring about health in any area of your life, the first step is noticing. Notice small. Taking even the most minute action, can yield results. I imagine the body saying “Ah, she/he’s finally noticing me. I can relax and heal now”.
When I sense an imbalance with my body or that I might require a new doctor, healer, food, supplement etc. I ask my body. Sometimes I ask out loud and sometimes I don’t. It still amazes me how the answer arrives in a quiet voice within or from someone sharing something with me.
Be kind to your body today and ask: “what do you need?”
You might be surprised at the answer.
