How’s your social media self care these days?
This past year I’ve cut way back on my social media time and it’s been a welcome break. I’m reading more, following up on tucked away tasks, receiving creative ideas and intentionally meeting up with friends in person.
The urge to “check” is real; it’s a neurological phenomenon called a dopamine loop. To put it simply our brain likes the “likes” and the quick responses we can receive on social media.
What happens when we don’t like something we see or we get triggered by a post? This can take your mind to some unwelcome negative places.
I just unfriended 5 people on Facebook today as a start to a self kindness social media clutter clearing. I let them go because I don’t know them, and they don’t know me. How did that happen??
Here are some guidelines that I’ve implemented for myself as I continue to clear the decks for 2020 in all my social media accounts:
*Does this person/business align with my values and who I am right now?
*Do I connect with, or does this person connect with me on social media or in daily life at all?
*Is there a back and forth, reciprocal connection?
*Does this person post things that trigger me such as animal abuse, violence, hate, fear…
You have a choice in what you see on social media. You’re in charge of your experience, for the most part. You can unfriend, unlike, or snooze someone or a business as this is self kindness and good ole boundary setting.
My personal FB account is about to get smaller as the new year approaches. This is creating a sense of inner integrity, more on this subject later.
Don’t let yourself down.
Align with your values and clear the decks.
There are new experiences and people that await you!
