It’s that time of year again, when the carols are playing, lights are blinking, and shoppers are bustling. It’s also the time of year that can bring about the most stress and emotions. Stress appears can appear in the body with symptoms such as exhaustion, tension, tightness, headaches, or digestion upset. Stress can appear in the emotions such as grief, loneliness, sadness, frustration, anger, or fear.
These are all reactions to outer circumstances.
Here’s the good news; you can create and control how your react AND you can create a plan to experience this December your way.
If you desire to experience this December differently, but feel stymied, stuck and resisting this notion, check these potential “show stoppers”:
Disappointment – If the fear of disappointing others comes up for you in regards to changing things up, consider how you were disappointed as a child or at other times in your life. Many times this fear of disappointing has nothing to do with others, it has to do with protecting the self from experiencing this feeling state. Disappointment is part of life and we all have to learn to sit with this. You cannot protect someone else or yourself from disappointment. When you lean into disappointment, it moves on!
Caretaker – If you find yourself putting others needs before your own, you’re not giving at full capacity. If you truly want to give to others, do it from a healthy place. Others can sense when you do something out of obligation and not out of the sheer joy of giving. Fill yourself up first and you’ll have more energy to give fully.
Beliefs – Your beliefs can hold you hostage from changing the way things have always been done or played out. If you want to grow, beliefs will need to be challenged, Bring curiosity to what brought a certain belief or tradition into being. Do you really need to make 12 batches of cookies ?!
In order to create a December to remember, I invite you to create a Soul Soothing list that you can go to in times of overwhelm or stress. Create a list of activities that bring you inner peace and soothing. By creating this list you’re implementing self kindness, and when you’re filled up, you’ll move through your days much brigher.
So let’s shine up the star that you are, grab a pen and sketch out a few items that bring you peace or a feeling of soothing.
